Giving back

We give back. We learned it early.

Every year we set aside studio time for local non-profits, and we show up for the community we work in. It’s how Michael was raised, and it’s how we run the studio.

Why we do it

Where it started

At the rink

Charity hockey, with his dad

Michael’s dad founded the Barrie Ball Hockey Club, and in 1994 Michael built its website, ballhockey.com. It was his first.

Together, through the club, they ran charity hockey events across Ontario that raised millions of dollars for the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, the United Way and many more. It taught Michael early that a small group, well organized, can do a lot of good.

At Salesforce

The 1‑1‑1 model

Salesforce was built on a simple pledge: give 1% of its equity, 1% of its product and 1% of its people’s time back to the community. Michael saw it work from the inside.

The lesson stuck. Giving back works best when it’s part of how a business runs, planned and on purpose, not whatever is left over at the end of the year.

We’re a much smaller company than Salesforce. We run on the same idea: our time and our skills, given on purpose, every year.

Websites for local non-profits

We work with local non-profits to improve their websites, so more people find them, and so they can raise the support they need to keep going.

Not everything good fits a funding program. Some of these groups started with a TDAP project, and the program picks up where the funding leaves off. Here are the sites we’ve updated most recently.
