Funding · TDAP, TDAP-Communities and AI DAP

There may be funding for this.

Nova Scotia runs programs that pay for some, or all, of the digital work small businesses and tourism operators need. We’re an approved consultant, we know how these programs are scored, and we’ll handle the paperwork.

Funding is a good way to get a first project off the ground. What we’re really here for is what comes after: our clients partner with us for the long term.

01 · Tourism

TDAP Tourism Digital Assistance Program

Funded by Tourism Nova Scotia and run by Digital Nova Scotia since 2020. More than 200 tourism businesses have used it to get found online and make booking easy.

What it pays for

Any mix of:

  • Website design and development, including AI chatbots and automations
  • Online booking
  • E-commerce (gift cards, merchandise, tickets)
  • Search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Data analytics
  • Digital marketing planning
  • Social media planning
  • Copywriting
  • Digital branding and design
  • Photography and video to fill content gaps

What you pay

Nothing. Approved businesses get up to $5,000 in services, tax included, and the consultant invoices Digital Nova Scotia directly.

Who qualifies

  • You’re listed on NovaScotia.com (no listing, no TDAP: see below)
  • You’re open to travellers this year, with your permits and licences in place
  • Roofed accommodations are on the province’s short-term rental registry
  • You’re in good standing with the Registry of Joint Stock Companies
  • You have a clear digital need and can finish the work by March 31

What helps an application

It’s competitive, and the panel scores applications. Preference goes to:

  • First-time applicants
  • Businesses extending their season or moving toward year-round
  • Operations focused on attracting and serving visitors
  • Experiences built on culture and heritage, local flavours, or outdoor and coastal activities
  • Mi’kmaw and African Nova Scotian businesses, and others from underrepresented communities

Been through TDAP before? You can apply again. You’ll need to show how the new work builds on what you already did, and that’s exactly the kind of plan we write.

Good to know

  • Up to $3,000 can go to photography or video. Those photos are owned by Tourism Nova Scotia and shared with you, and may be used in provincial marketing. We’re approved by Tourism Nova Scotia as photographers and videographers, so we can shoot it ourselves.
  • Up to $1,000 can go to subscriptions, software and campaign testing.
  • Work usually runs late spring to fall and must wrap by March 31.

You can ask for us

Digital Nova Scotia gives approved businesses a short list of recommended consultants, and you choose. Tell us you’re applying and we’ll help you note your preference in the application.

Timing: The 2026-27 intake closed April 16, 2026. Applications typically open in early spring. Talk to us over the winter so you’re ready the day it opens.

The TDAP readiness checklist

Two pages: whether you can apply, what to fix on your NovaScotia.com listing, what makes an application stand out, and what to have ready. Work through it over the winter, and you’ll be ready the day the intake opens.

We'll only use your email to send the checklist and, if you tick the box, the intake reminder.

02 · Communities

TDAP-Communities

The same idea as TDAP, scaled up for the organizations that promote a whole town or region.

What it pays for

The same list of services as TDAP, aimed at selling your community as a destination: what to see, where to stay, where to eat, and how to get there.

What you pay

Nothing. Up to $15,000 in services, tax included. Up to $2,500 can go to subscriptions and campaign testing, and up to $3,000 to photography or video.

Who qualifies

  • Nova Scotia municipalities
  • Chambers of commerce
  • Member-based tourism organizations
  • Regional destination marketing organizations focused on specific communities

You need to have operated for more than a year, have a track record of promoting travel to your community, and have someone on staff to manage the project.

What helps an application

First-time applicants, season extension, and a clear story about how the work will grow tourism in your area, such as championing a region or a product cluster like food, trails or heritage.

We know this side from the inside

We’re an approved TDAP-Communities consultant. Michael chairs the Mahone Bay Tourism & Chamber of Commerce and has run mahonebay.com since 2020. We understand board approvals, volunteer capacity and member expectations, and we build sites that member businesses actually benefit from.

Timing: The 2026-27 intake closed May 14, 2026. Expect the next round in spring.

03 · Any sector

AI DAP AI Digital Adoption Program

Not just for tourism. AI DAP helps established Nova Scotia businesses in any sector move from wondering about AI to using it, with training first and funding second. It’s delivered with the Province of Nova Scotia and ACOA.

How it works

  1. Training. One or two of your leaders complete AI Leadership Training through NSCC: about 15 hours, online, at your own pace.
  2. Apply for the grant. Once training is done, you can apply for the AI Adoption Grant.
  3. Plan. Digital Nova Scotia assigns a consultant from its approved roster to shape the project.
  4. Implement. A delivery partner builds it.

What it pays for

75% of eligible project costs, up to $8,500 + HST. You cover the other 25%.

Typical projects:

  • Automating repetitive admin: quotes, intake forms, scheduling, follow-ups
  • AI-powered customer service, like a website assistant that answers booking questions at 11 p.m.
  • Better reporting, so decisions come from data instead of guesswork
  • Rolling out AI tools responsibly, with your team trained to use them

Who qualifies

  • Registered, based and operating in Nova Scotia
  • At least five employees
  • In business for at least two years
  • Able to put a senior leader through the training

You don’t need a project figured out to apply. The training is designed to help you find one.

Good to know

Spots are limited and applications are scored. Finishing the training doesn’t guarantee the grant. Consultants are assigned by Digital Nova Scotia, and we’re on the roster. See what AI work looks like in practice in our AI services.

Timing: The first intake closed February 23, 2026. Ask us to let you know when the next one opens.

04 · Tourism Nova Scotia

The programs most operators miss

Your NovaScotia.com listing (free)

NovaScotia.com is the province’s official trip-planning site, with more than nine million visits a year. A free listing also puts you in the Doers & Dreamers Travel Guide. And it’s the key that unlocks TDAP and other provincial programs.

To be listed, you generally need to:

  • Be open at least four days a week with set hours (13 consecutive weeks if seasonal)
  • Have a fixed location or a published meeting point
  • Carry liability insurance and meet all regulations
  • Have a website or social page with accurate details
  • Link to your reviews (Google, Tripadvisor and similar)
  • Provide 1 to 10 horizontal photos at 1920 × 1080, with no logos or text on them
  • Update your listing at least once a year
  • For accommodations: register with the province and report occupancy monthly

Tourism Nova Scotia also recommends adding your website, social channels, a YouTube video and a direct booking link.

How we help: We’ll check your eligibility, prepare listing-ready photos and copy, and make sure every link leads somewhere that sells. Packages and experiences you list must also appear on your own website, and we’ll build those pages.

Digital Content Marketing Program (50/50 match)

Tourism Nova Scotia matches your investment dollar for dollar to produce professional photo and video, or to run a digital ad campaign in markets like the Maritimes, Ontario, Quebec and the U.S. Northeast.

  • Content creation: from $10,000 of your investment, matched to a $20,000 production
  • Digital marketing: from $7,500 in media plus a 15% buying fee, matched

To qualify for the marketing stream, your website needs a strong landing page, Google Analytics 4, and solid content on NovaScotia.com. Priority goes to off-season work.

How we help: We get your site campaign-ready before you apply: landing pages, GA4, conversion tracking and booking flow. A funded campaign that sends people to a weak website wastes both halves of the money. For the content stream, we’re approved Tourism Nova Scotia photographers and videographers.

Timing: The 2026-27 deadline was January 30, 2026. Expect the next call in early winter.

RADIATE Tourism Program

Build a fall or winter package aimed at Maritime travellers, and Tourism Nova Scotia features it on a seasonal NovaScotia.com page backed by a digital campaign. The 2026-27 deadline was April 22, 2026.

How we help: Package pages, online booking and the landing page the campaign points to.

Free resources worth using

  • Photo & Video Library: register for free provincial imagery to use in your marketing
  • DigiPort: free webinars, templates and one-on-one coaching from digital experts
  • Voice of the Visitor: add up to 10 questions to a provincial visitor survey and get a custom report
  • Tourism development advisors: free coaching on packages, experiences and market research
05 · TIANS

Support beyond digital

As members of the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia, we keep an eye on what’s available to operators.

  • Quality Mentoring Program: pairs owners and operators with qualified mentors on targeted business topics. Spots are limited.
  • Seasonal Tourist Business Designation: a property tax program for seasonal restaurants, accommodations and campgrounds closed at least four months a year. Apply to PVSC every year; the deadline was September 1 for the 2027 roll.
  • Training through NSTHRC: service excellence and certification for front-line staff, supervisors and managers.
  • Member savings: discounts on card processing, energy, marketing and more.
Putting it together

Most clients don’t need one program. They need the right order.

Here’s what a year can look like for a tourism operator (illustrative).

  1. 01WinterGet your NovaScotia.com listing current and plan your TDAP application.
  2. 02SpringTDAP funds a new website with online booking, SEO and GA4.
  3. 03SummerList your packages and experiences on NovaScotia.com, linked to real booking pages.
  4. 04Next winterWith a campaign-ready site, apply to the Digital Content Marketing Program to reach new markets.
  5. 05Next springAdd a RADIATE package to fill the shoulder season.

If you have five or more staff, AI DAP can run alongside any of this to automate the back office.

How it works

  1. 01

    A free chat

Tell us what you're working on. We'll tell you honestly which programs fit, and which don't, before you spend any time on an application.

  2. 02

We write the application with you

We know how these programs are scored, so we scope the work to fit the caps and the criteria: what the panel looks for, what the money can and can’t cover, and what can realistically be finished by March 31.

  3. 03

    We build it

Once you’re approved, we do the work, handle the reporting the program requires, and plan the next step, so this year’s project sets up next year’s application.

Questions

Does TDAP really cost nothing?

For approved businesses, yes. Up to $5,000 in services, tax included, is paid by the program directly to the consultant. If you want work beyond what’s funded, we’ll quote that separately and clearly.

Can I choose MBD Studio as my consultant?

For TDAP and TDAP-Communities, Digital Nova Scotia recommends a short list of approved consultants and you choose; we’re approved for both. For AI DAP, consultants are assigned from the roster, which we’re on.

I’m not a tourism business. Is there anything for me?

Yes. AI DAP is open to Nova Scotia businesses in any sector with at least five employees and two years in operation.

I did TDAP a few years ago. Can I apply again?

Yes. First-time applicants get priority, so your application needs to show how new work builds on the last project. We’ll help you make that case.

I’m not on NovaScotia.com. Can I still apply for TDAP?

Not until you are. A listing is free, and we can help you get one in place before the next intake.

What doesn’t the funding cover?

TDAP can’t be used just to buy ads, and photo and video is capped at $3,000. AI DAP covers 75%, so you’ll pay a quarter of the project.

What if I’m not accepted?

These programs are competitive, and eligibility doesn’t guarantee approval. If you’re turned down, we’ll look at reapplying next round, or another program that fits.

When should I start?

Now. Most intakes open and close within a few weeks, and the best applications are planned before the window opens.
