About

Building for the web since 1994.

It started with a ball hockey league's website in 1994. Thirty years later we're still building, from a studio in Mahone Bay since 2020.

Michael Broley has been building for the web since 1994, when he launched ballhockey.com for the Barrie Ball Hockey Club his father founded. That first site started a 30-year career spanning the full arc of the internet, including enterprise sales roles at Xerox and Salesforce, where he learned how organisations actually buy, adopt and get value from technology. Today he is the Founder and Creative Director of MBD Studio, a boutique web development, branding and digital strategy agency based in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia.

At MBD Studio, Michael works with tourism operators, small businesses, municipalities, non-profits and publicly listed companies to build brands and websites that are fast, findable and built to last. His work runs from brand books and modern Astro builds to Shopify development, ticketing and e-commerce integrations, and the emerging field of AI visibility, making sure businesses show up not only in search but in the AI tools people now use to find them. As an approved consultant for Tourism Nova Scotia’s Tourism Digital Assistance Program (including TDAP-Communities) and Digital Nova Scotia’s AI Digital Assistance Program, and an approved Tourism Nova Scotia photographer and videographer, he also helps clients access funding to make that work possible. He has been featured on Digital Nova Scotia’s All Hands on Tech podcast and in a Digital Nova Scotia profile.

Michael is deeply rooted in his community. He chairs the Mahone Bay Tourism & Chamber of Commerce and has run mahonebay.com since 2020. He is a member of Digital Nova Scotia, TIANS and CFIB, and earlier in his career helped raise funds for the United Way and Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre through charity hockey events in Ontario. When he’s not building for clients, he runs 902 Fingerboards, East Coast Canada’s only dedicated fingerboard shop.
